First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in getting this edition out, only life has been extremely hectic for everyone involved.
I am very pleased to be able to announce that I have recently been offered a representation contract for my natural history work by "Oxford Scientific Films" (OSF), a division of the "Photolibrary Group". OSF is one of the largest bespoke natural history agents in the world and being part of the "Photolibrary" Group creates many new and exciting opportunities for me. In adition to this I have also recently agreed arrangements with one of the UKs largest greeting cards & calendar company's. This I am really excited about.
Within the last few weeks Canon have offered me the opportunity to join their team of photographers who review and test some of their latest photographic equipment. This opportunity could prove to be very interesting, especially when you consider such items as the 1Ds MKIII and the yet to be released 800mm f5.6 lens. Ideal for those very small skittish birds and for someone who has a mere £9000 to spare!!!
A local picture framing company in Prescot, Nr Liverpool called "Artemis" have recently offered me exclusive use of a new private gallery they are constructing. This project is very close to being complete and we will keep you informed as and when the gallery is opened.
Following numerous enquiry's and requests from both individuals, camera clubs and corporate organisations to organise and run some bespoke "1 to 1" or "2 to 1" one day workshops, I have decided to introduce exactly this. For example "Get Your Camera Off P & A" and many more. These events will be very economically priced, in hopes of accommodating everyone. For more detailed information please have a look at the workshops page here on this site, or contact me for further details.
As some of you may recall, just prior to leaving for Africa last year I took delivery of a new 1D MKIII body and initially I was very pleased with the quality of my test images. When I returned I found a product recall had been instigated on body's with certain serial numbers. Yes you've guessed it, the serial number of my 1D MKIII was bang in the middle of those being recalled. Needless to say I wasn't too pleased. The camera was immediately returned to the Canon Service Centre at Elstree and after a few points of concern where ironed out, I was supplied with a totally new body and was re-assured by Canon. Thank you Canon.
Over the past few months various additions, modifications, and upgrades have been made to my principle computer. The biggest introduction has been to invest in a new imaging monitor, an Eizo ColourEdge CG221 complete with hood and Eye-One calibration system. An absolutely excellent piece of kit. We have also recently upgraded our "Extensis Portfolio" Image Management and "Genuine Fractals" software packages.
One of my clients recently requested me to spend some time in Exmoor and what a beautiful part of the country it is. For the time I was there I was based in and around the "Kentisbury" area which for those of you who don't know, is south of "Lynton" and on the edge of the Exmoor National Park". Both my client and I where very pleased with the results I obtained and I can honestly say, this location is most certainly going on my "must return to one day list".
I have recently been making various changes to my web site, which includes some additional pages. For example:
1) An "Any Questions" page has been added to the main "side" tool bar and contains such pages as "About Us", "FAQs", "Site Map", "Business Info", "T&C", "Privacy Policy", and a "Links" page.
2) The "About Us" page is a brief summary/biography about my wife Carol and I.
3) The "FAQs" page contains a few questions which appear to be some of the most commonly and frequently asked questions at this moment in time. These will continue to be added to as time goes on.
4) A "Site Map", displays and provides links to all the pages on this site.
5) The following three pages "Business Info", Terms & Conditions", and a "Privacy Policy" are usually classed as the three less viewed pages of any e-commerce site. My belief is to be as transparent as possible in all my business discussions, negotiations, and transactions. Hence my reason for including these pages.
6) The "Links" page will provide a series of contacts, which hopefully you will find of assistance. All the companies and organisations listed on this page have been used by myself at sometime or other.
In addition to the "Any Questions" page I will be adding a new "Hints & Tips" page. This will include and cover such topics as equipment, books, software, techniques, and digital process's. The digital snippets will mainly contain practices which I have found most useful in creating an efficient and time conscious workflow.
Well that's all for now. Enjoy your photography in the forthcoming weeks and don't be put off by bad weather.
Keep on clickin.
John Fairclough.
