Photography Workshops: "Grey Seal Workshops"

This workshop is enables you to work very close up and personal with some "Grey Seals" at one of Europes largest, if not the actual largest, "Grey Seal" Colony.

The workshops will commence at a date and time which has yet to be announced. The reason being we very much controlled by the tide times, once the tide has changed and is reseeding, we are able to start and walk out to a sandbank where the seals live and are very much in thier own environment and habitat. This will provide us with the maximum amount of time with the seals before having to leave the location.

There are always plenty of adult seals, both male and female and of course not foregetting those beautiful little pups. These are spread out over very large area, providing adequate photo opportunities without working on top of one another. This provides ample opportunity to work individually or in couples without causing any stress or pressure to the seals. We will indicate some of the prime spots for you to work and will circulate amongst you giving tuition, hints and tips.

The style of shots you will be able to achieve of the seals include: New Born Pups, Playing, Feeding, Surfing, Adult Courtships, Fighting and Mating. Now if you really are very lucky you may witness an actual birth, however this is very very rare.

What equipment do you need, I hear you ask?

The first and most important items you must consider  for this workshop, is not your camera gear, but your clothing. You will need some very warm and waterproof layers (at least 4 layers) and a good pair of wellington boots enabling you to cut across the water channels in between the shore and the sandbank. You will be working in direct line to receive the full blast of the North sea winds. We therefore recommend a decent level of fitness is required and that you bring only what you can carry with you.

Your camera gear can range from a compact camera to the very latest in SLRs or D-SLRs with an assortment of Lens's from wide angle to telephoto. Oh yes don't forget plenty of Memory Cards or Films.  Extra gear you may wish to consider may include: - Tripod, bean bag, and a Flash gun, etc. Ensure that all your gear (except your tripod and bean bag) can be housed in a waterproof camera bag just in case the weather suddenly changes for the worst.

This workshop is very much a hands-on day with only a little instruction concerning the welfare of the seals and your safety.
